Complicating grounds

article, illustration

From the jottings from geo ethnographer Otto van den Akker (1985). He was commissioned to report the future of the landscape of Groningen province from the perspective of the inhabitants.

In Complicated terrains, I introduce a fictitious ethnographer who writes about the future of the Norther landscape in a poetic way, yet not neutral to current issues. His notes record the voices of fictitious inhabitants of the Groningen province who complicate the image and way of thinking about the future. Instead of proposing practical solutions or a utopian image of the future, these notes try to creatively interpret the current and possible issues with the Northern landscape and its backbone, the soil.
